Why MLS would be better with two big clubs

The MLS has been growing in popularity over the years and has been working hard to establish itself as one of the top soccer leagues in the world. With this growth comes questions about the direction the league should take in order to continue to improve. One topic that has been hotly debated is whether or not it would be better for the league to have two dominant teams with "galactico" style rosters, or for there to be parity across the league.

On one hand, having two dominant teams with star-studded rosters would bring a level of excitement and anticipation to matches, as fans would be eager to see how the top players perform against one another. These games could potentially draw larger crowds and generate more revenue for the league. Additionally, having two top teams would also attract more high-quality players to the league, which would help to raise the overall level of play.

However, there are also drawbacks to having two dominant teams. For one, it could lead to a lack of competition and predictability in the league. If two teams are head and shoulders above the rest, the season could become less interesting as fans already know who the likely winner will be. This could lead to a decrease in attendance and revenue for the league.

Having two dominant teams would not necessarily be good for the smaller teams in the league. These teams would struggle to compete against the top teams and could struggle to attract high-quality players to their rosters. This could lead to a lack of parity across the league, and the smaller teams may struggle to maintain a high level of play.

In contrast, parity across the league would create a more competitive and unpredictable season. Fans would not be able to predict who would win each game, and this could lead to higher attendance and revenue for the league. Additionally, parity would create opportunities for smaller teams to compete and potentially upset the top teams, which would create excitement and interest in the league.

While having two dominant teams with galactico style rosters may bring excitement and high-quality play, it may not be sustainable for the league in the long-term. On the other hand, parity across the league creates a more competitive and unpredictable season, but may not attract as many high-quality players to the league. Ultimately, the MLS will have to find a balance that works for all teams involved and that will help to continue to grow the league in the future.
